Frequently asked questions
Is the desktop app free?
Yes — downloading and using the app is free, including multi-model chat and notes. Membership only adds capacity, such as more devices online at once for remote Claude Code.
Do I need an API key?
No. Sign in with an email verification code and start chatting. If you prefer your own provider, add its endpoint and key in the model settings later.
Which download do I pick on a Mac?
There is only one — the universal build runs natively on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.
What is different from the web app?
The web app covers chat, the agent page and notes. The desktop app adds the built-in terminal & SSH, native windows for notes, and desktop conveniences like a tray and global shortcuts — with the same account and the same sessions.
How do I update?
You don't have to do anything: the desktop app updates itself in place when a new version ships. The version numbers next to the download buttons always show the latest release.
